Ronald Joseph Pate, 64, of Hahira, died on Friday, Dec. 20, 2013, at Holly Hill Nursing Home following a lengthy illness. He was born in Turner County, Ga., on July 31, 1949, to the late Maxine and Lucille Whiddon Pate. He worked as a jockey and an outrider in the horse racing industry from 1985 to 2007 until illness forced his retirement. Mr. Pate was of the Church of God faith.
Survivors include his wife of 41 years, Debbie Wilkins Pate of Hahira; a son, Stacey Pate of Kentucky; a granddaughter, Ashley Pate of Valdosta; and a grandson, Nicky Pate of Pompano Beach, Fla.; three brothers and two sisters-in-law, Steve and Evalee Pate of Ocala, Fla., Bobby Lee Pate of California, Craig and Missy Pate of Amelia, Ohio; numerous nieces and nephews.
