Russell Lincoln Alderman, 91, of Thomasville, Ga., passed away unexpectedly on Monday, Sept. 30, 2013, at Archbold Hospital in Thomasville.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 3, 2013, in the chapel of Harry T. Reid Funeral Home, Jasper, Fla. Interment will follow in Burnham Christian Church Cemetery near Jennings, Fla.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday beginning at 10 a.m.
Mr. Russell Alderman was born in Jennings, Fla., on Sept. 23, 1922, to the late Gordon and Clyde Deas Alderman. Upon graduation from Jennings High School, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served until the end of WWII. Russell married his high school sweetheart, Hilda Cunningham, and returned to Jennings to begin farming. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather who deeply loved his family. Russell was a member of First Christian Church in Valdosta, Ga. He enjoyed the outdoors and was an avid hunter and saltwater fisherman.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Sheila Alderman Hunt (Tom).
Survivors include his wife of 70 years, Hilda Cunningham Alderman, Thomasville, Ga.; one son, Russell “Rusty” Alderman (Colleen), West Grove, Pa.; one daughter, Janet Alderman Webb (Jerry), Thomasville, Ga.; one brother, Herbert Alderman (Sallie), Monks Corner, S.C.; one sister, Inez Sandefer (George), Palatka, Fla.; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to First Christian Church in Valdosta, Ga., or Burhnam Christian Church in Jennings, Fla. — Harry T. Reid Funeral Home, Jasper, Fla., is in charge of arrangements.
