Billy J. Hancock, 82, of Adel, passed away Feb. 25, 2014, at Tift Regional Medical Center in Tifton, Ga. He was born in Adel on Dec. 3, 1931, to the late Julian Camel Hancock and Leila Hayes Hancock. He lived all of his life in Cook County and was the owner of Billy J. Hancock Bookkeeeping and Tax Services, and the former owner of Hancock Peanut Company. Mr. Hancock was a member of Full Gospel Ministries Church and also served as a Staff Sergeant in the U.S. Marine Corps.
Mr. Hancock is survived by three daughters, Stephanie Jackson and Sharon Royals of Adel, and Sylvia Sheets of Millbrook, Ala.; three grandchildren, Daniel and Jessie Royals, Josh Royals, and Kyle Jackson, all of Adel; three great-grandchildren, Alexis, Madison, and Dawson Royals, all of Adel; and a sister, Beatrice Lynch of Branford, Fla.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Gary Hancock; and a sister, Wava Tucker.
The family will receive friends Friday, Feb. 28, from 6-8 p.m. at Boone Funeral Home, 1804 S. Hutchinson Ave., in Adel.
Funeral service will take place Saturday, March 1, 2014, at 11 a.m. in the chapel of Boone Funeral Home with the Rev. James Rice officiating. Cremation will follow the service and the cremains will be buried in Crossroads Cemetery at a later date.
