Ethel Bennett Montgomery

VALDOSTA — Ethel Bennett Montgomery, 86, of Adel, passed away Tuesday, July 30, 2013, at her home. She was born May 10, 1927, in Nashville, Ga., to the late Walter Cornelius Bennett and Elizabeth “Betty” Watson Bennett. She was a homemaker and retried seamstress as well as a member of Ministry Baptist Church in Ray City, Ga. She was a wonderful mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, cousin and friend to many. Her great love for God, church, and family was very evident in her daily life. Even when sick, she was very humble and did not complain. Always doing for others and putting others ahead of herself was only one of her wonderful characteristics.

She loved to sew, garden and cook for her family. Special family memories include wonderful home-cooked Sunday dinners with all of the family together and the love she always showed to each and every family member. She loved each one of her family and enjoyed all the times she could spend with them.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 67 years (whom she married Oct. 2, 1944). She was also preceded in death by five brothers, Buie, Calvin, Melton, Vernon, and Robert Bennett; and two sisters, Nadine Exum and Vangie Horton.

Mrs. Montgomery is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Wallace and Alice Montgomery of Valdosta, David and Deanna Montgomery of Martinsville, Ind.; two daughters and son-in-law, Carol Montgomery Thomas Kimmer of Newberry, S.C., and Janice and John Bell of Moultrie; 14 grandchildren, Melinda (James) Easler, Angela (Keith) Fallon, Carrie (Phillip) Harris, Amy Montgomery, Daniel (Amy) Thomas, Dawn (Brian) Spray, April (Jamie) Cribb, Allen Montgomery, Brittany, Sierra and Hope Montgomery, Jonathan (Crystal) Bell, Timothy (Lynsey) Bell and Jennifer (Heath) Sims; 20 great-grandchildren, Malyn Easler, Andrew and Emma Fallon, Tyler and Victoria Thomas, Taylore and Seth Spray, Zack, Justin, Dawson and Nikki Cribb, Kristyn and Jason Montgomery, Nathan, Aaron and Ryan Bell, Brayden and Kylan Bell, Cardin Emory Sims, and Isabella Jade Harris; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

The Montgomery family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. today at Boone Funeral Home, 1804 S. Hutchinson Ave., in Adel.

Funeral service will take place Friday, Aug. 2, 2013, at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Boone Funeral Home with the Rev. John Bell and the Rev. James Easler officiating. Interment will follow in Wilkes Cemetery.
