Mae Catherine Moses Long

VALDOSTA — Mrs. Mae Catherine Moses Long was born Oct. 21, 1940 in Lakeland, Ga. to the late Robert and Frances Moses. She joined the Catholic faith at an early age and was  a faithful member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church until her death. She graduated high school from St. Anne’s Academy for Girls in Winston Salem, N.C. She completed the Grady Memorial Hospital Nursing Program in Atlanta, Ga. She received a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Albany State College in Albany, Ga. She worked at Smith Hospital in Lakeland, Ga. and at Pineview General Hospital in Valdosta. She worked for over 25 years for the Lowndes County Health Department until her retirement.

She was an active member of the Catholic Council of Women and the Valdosta Chapter of the Albany State University Alumni Association. She was a devoted volunteer in the community. She volunteered her time and talents for the Southside Recreation Center as a school mentor, the local Red Cross, the Salvation Army and the St. Francis Community Center.

She entered eternal rest on Thursday, May 23, 2013 at South Georgia Medical Center. She is preceded in death by a brother, Felix Moses and a sister Carolyn Roberts.

She leaves to mourn, her devoted husband Coriel; son, Rembrant Moses (Kenyarda) of Jacksonville, Fla.; daughter, Carlis Moses, Fort Meade, Md.; step daughter, Sylvia Burrow (Kenneth), Richardson, Texas; grandchildren, Zarron Moses, Williamsburg, Va.; Coriel Major, Fort Meade, Md.; step grandson, Reginald Herron, Dallas, Texas; one step great-granddaughter, Kiara Herron, Austin, Texas; six sisters, Mae  Frances Moses, Mary Moses-Hunter (William), both of Newark, N.J., Cecilia Faulks (Leroy), Orange, N.J., Verdell Moses-Boyd (James), Falling Waters, W. Va., Marie Moses-Super (William) and Annie Ruth Moses, both of Newark, N.J.; three brothers, Robert Moses Jr. (Connie), Maplewood, N.J., Frank Moses (Gayle), Livingston, N.J. and Gerald Moses of Newark, N.J.; a beloved aunt, Sarah Carter, Lakeland, Ga.; and a dear cousin, Evelyn Brown (Clifford), Valdosta; in-laws, Gertrude White, Mariah Long-Fair, Washington Long Jr., Paul Long, William Long, and Frederick Long. She also leaves to mourn her passing a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.

Visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m. this evening, May 31, 2013 at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church.

Funeral services will be held  at 11 a.m., Saturday, June 1, 2013 at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church. Father Dan O’Connell will officiate. Interment will follow in Charles Knight Cemetery in Lakeland, Ga. —  Final rites have been entrusted to Harrington Funeral Home, Valdosta
