The Valdosta Daily Times
Mr. John L. Williams, 78, of Adel, Georgia passed away July 13, 2013 at South Georgia Medical Center in Valdosta following a sudden illness. He was born October 23, 1934 in Lowndes County to the late Asa Grady Williams and Pearlie Ruth Register Williams. Mr. Williams lived most of his life in Cook County where he was a member of the Adel United Methodist Church, The Roundtable, Masons and Shrine. A visionary and an astute businessman, John L. founded his company business on I-75 in 1963 in Cecil, Georgia. In 1973, he moved his business headquarters, Williams Investment Company, to Adel where he opened the King Frog. Over the years, the family operated business also expanded into Lowndes and Tift Counties, and is the second oldest Tourism business established on I-75 in the nation today.
John L. was a great father, grandfather, and friend. He loved traveling and socializing with his family and friends, his coffee club and supper club, and was a great conversationalist. His businesses were also his hobbies, as he thoroughly enjoyed every aspect of the development of them. He enjoyed working and visiting many of them daily. He considered his employees his family as well, and will be sorely missed by us all.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, Joyce McCrary Williams; and his sister, Vesta W. Thurmond.
