Deacon Lanis Roberts Sr. was born Aug. 28, 1932, to the late Lanis and Rosa Roberts. He was raised by his uncle “Pomp” and Bulah Ziegler. He transitioned from this life on Sunday, April 13, 2014, from the Heritage House. He accepted Christ at an early age. He was a faithful and dedicated member of the Mt. Zion Baptist Church of Dasher, Ga., where he served as the chairman deacon until his health failed. He is preceded in death by his parents, Lanis and Rosa Roberts, Pomp and Bulah Ziegler, his brother Wallace Roberts and his son, Landis Roberts Jr.
He leaves to cherish his memories his loving and devoted wife of 56 years, Calendar Young Roberts; his children, Linda (Richard) Thomas of Valdosta, Ga., Raymond Roberts, Eleanor (Roy) Gibson and Earl E. Roberts; one sister, Ethal Mae Roberts of New Jersey; grandchildren Robert Benton II, Kelvin (Dimitria) Roberts, Kemisha (Joe) Johns, Mary Gibson, Reeshon Benton, Corey Roberts, Roy (Priness) Gibson Jr., Lacey (Servar) Washington and Carlos Roberts; 17 great-grandchildren; a special great-grandson, Kameron Roberts; three sisters-in-law and one brother-in-law; one aunt, Ruth Perry; and one uncle, Author McJames; and a hose of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Special thanks to Hospice staff and the Heritage House staff.
The funeral will be held Saturday, April 19, 2014, at 3 p.m. Officiating will be done by Overseer Corey Roberts. Burial will be at the Concord Baptist Church cemetery. — Scott and Roberts Mortuary Inc.
