VALDOSTA — On Nov. 17, 1947, the late Elder James Edward Williams Sr., and the late Bessie Lee Carter Williams gave birth to James Edward Williams Jr., in Valdosta, Ga. Mr. Williams received his education in the Lowndes County School System. He married the love of his life Marcia Ridling Williams.

At an early age, Mr. Williams joined the U.S. Marine Corps and served in Vietnam Era. He was employed with the Lowndes County Sheriff Department and made the rank of Captain. After 32 years, he retired as a Fire Marshall. Since his retirement, he enjoyed traveling and riding motorcycles. He owned and operated Valdosta Laundry and Drop off Service for 15 years. Mr. Williams departed this walk of life on Oct. 21, 2013.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Clifford Jackson.

He leaves to cherish his memories a loving and devoted wife, Marcia Williams; three children, Rhonda Mohead (Arthur) of Columbia, S.C., Keisa Berrian (Cedric) of Valdosta, and Brian Gay of Barney, Ga.; one sister, Betty Williams of Valdosta; four grandchildren, Brandon Mohead, Christopher Mohead, Erick Mohead, and Caleb Berrian; mother-in-law, Edith Ridling of Barnwell, S.C.; sister-in-law, Shannon Ridling of Valdosta, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws, and friends; and his loving K-9 companions, Ace and Angus that he loved dearly. Special thanks to the Valdosta Fire Department family.

Family wake will be held from 5-7 p.m. today at the Harrington Funeral Home Chapel.

Funeral service will be held Friday, Oct. 25, 2013, at 1 p.m. at Union Cathedral Church. Bishop Wade S. McCrae will officiate. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Langdale Hospice House. —  Final rites have been entrusted to Harrington Funeral Home of Valdosta.
