Dr. Jay Cecil Surratt, 78, of Nashville died Thursday Oct. 10, 2013 in the Langdale Hospice House.
He was born February 5, 1935 in Stone, Ky. to the late Cecil McKinley Surratt and the late Mildred Louise Curry. He was a retired physician, having practiced medicine for 46 years. He was a 50 year Mason, member of Nashville United Methodist Church, and a veteran of the U.S. Air Force, Army and Navy. He was preceded in death by a sister, Patricia Bielski.
He is survived by his wife: Sarah Caroline Robertson Surratt of Nashville; daughter, Anna (Tommy) Fussell of Eielson AFB, Alaska; three sons, Gordon Jay (Kimberly) Surratt of Denton, Texas, Gregory David (Carly) Surratt of Watkinsville, Ga., and Grant Surratt of Brooklyn, N.Y.; six grandchildren, Tillman, Cile, Zoe, and Hawthorn Surratt, and Eli and Seth Fussel; two sisters, Ann Freeman of Dallas, Texas and Rose (Joe) Grassel of Fowlerville, Mich.; two brothers-in-law, David Robertson of Apalachin, N.Y. and Joe (Lori) Robertson of Bentonville, Ark.
The family has honored his request for cremation. A memorial service will be held Monday, Oct. 14, 2013 at 11 a.m. in the Nashville United Methodist Church with the Rev. Michael Finn officiating. The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the service.
