The Valdosta Daily Times

VALDOSTA — David Hernandez Bell, 52, of Valdosta, was called to his heavenly home following a lengthy illness in the early morning hours of Oct. 5, 2013.

He was born on March 22, 1961, to Mary Frances Bryant and the late William Baker. David was a son, grandson, brother, father, grandfather, friend, uncle and mentor. David chose to remain busy, never giving up, even when it came to assisting in detailing cars, to remain busy after going under renal care. He always desired to remain a servant in some kind of way and was active in the Men’s Ministry as part of the cooking team preparing breakfast for other men at the church. David was one of the few men, with all of his health issues, to attend South Georgia Walk to Emmaus No. 91, in March 2012. At the time, he was receiving dialysis three times a week, yet he stood like a giant among men fully participating in the weekend and trusting everything to God.  David was the longest living dialysis patient.

He was preceded in death by his father, William Baker; a brother, Sammy L. Cushion; grandparents, Sammy Lee Bell, Lewis Mitchell Jr., William and Ammie Bell Baker.

He leaves to cherish his memory his mother, Mary Frances Bryant; a son, Trevor N. Bell; a daughter, Daneshia Bell; grandchildren, Di’Nica Grady, Trever N. Bell Jr. and Moriah Hutson; sister, Jenecia (Phillip) Wilcoxson of Atlanta, Ga.; three brothers, Kevner (Adrian) Dyer Sr., James W. Baker Sr. and Derreck Q. Baker of Dayton, Ohio; a grandmother, Elizabeth Mitchell; aunts, Beatricia Abernell of Ft. Valley, Carol (David) Brown of Atlanta, Hannah Jones of Valdosta,  and Elizabeth Braynon of Atlanta; uncles, I. James (Ann) Mitchell of St. Petersburg, Fla., Anthony (Rosa) Mitchell of El Paso Texas, Alfred Mitchell of Valdosta, Calvin (Esther) Folsom, Harold Baker of Atlanta, Ted (Chevonne) of Stone Mountain, Ga., Johnnie (Patricia) Baker of Daton, Ohio and Donald Baker of Barrets, Ga.; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives.
