James Albert Bruce, 85, of Dixie passed away Wednesday April 10, 2013 at Archbold Memorial Hospital after a lengthy illness.
A life long resident of Dixie, Ga. he was the son of Willie Irvin and Eula Martin Bruce. He was a farmer and a member of the Dixie Baptist Church where he served as deacon and song leader for many years. He served on the Georgia Peanut commission, the Brooks County Board of Education, and was one of the founders of Westbrook School.
He is survived by his wife; Eva Nell Bruce of Dixie, four children; James Michael (Michelle) Bruce of Quitman, Patrick Everett (Joni) Bruce of Quitman, Lisa Bruce (Jack) Courson of Bradenton, Fla., Robert Martin (Delaine) Bruce of Quitman; 10 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; one sister, Marguerite Davis of Roswell, Ga.; and one brother; Boyd Bruce of Tallahassee, Fla. He was preceded in death by two brothers, two sisters, and one grandson.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, April 13 at 11 a.m. at Dixie Baptist Church with the Rev. Art Harris, the Rev. Thilmon Vonier and the Rev. Jimmy Voyles officiating. Burial will follow in Dixie Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home this evening from 6-8 p.m.
Mr. Bruce’s grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
