Elder Willie Frank Lester, Sr., of 403 Knob Hill Dr. and formally of 811 Bethune St., entered into eternal peace and rest with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Tuesday, Nov. 13, 2012 at 3:25 p.m. surrounded by his loving family. He was born on Oct. 20, 1917 in Lowndes County to Mrs. Gussie Humphrey and Mr. M.L. Lester, I. He was educated in the Lowndes County School System. He was employed at Owens Illinois Paper Mill for over 30 plus years.
Elder Lester accepted Christ at an early age while attending Silver Run Baptist Church. Later, he joined Morning Star Baptist Church. Several years later, he became a member of the Mt. Zion Tridestone Church of God Church and served as Pastor for several years. He met and later married the love of his life, the beautfiul Jessie L. Askew. She became his loyal and faithful wife for nearly 68 years and to this union five children were born.
Elder Lester was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents, one brother, one granddaughter, several aunts, uncles and cousins.
He leaves to cherish his legacy and precious memories his wife, Mother Jessie L. Lester; seven children: Ann McCarty of Greatmills, Md., Erma L. Jenkins (Harry) of Valdosta, James Barnett (Elaine) of Augusta, Elder Willie Frank Lester, Jr. of Valdosta, Calvin Lester (Brenda) of Macon, Minister Marita L. Williams (Willie B.) and Lafayette Lester of Valdosta; 10 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren; three sister-in-laws; Also a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and the Mt. Zion/Tridestone Church of God Church family.
The home going celebration for Elder Willie Frank Lester, Sr. will be held on Saturday, Nov. 24, 2012 at 1 p.m. at the Morning Star Baptist Church, 1051 Howell Rd., Valdosta. Dr. William C. Morgan, pastor, Elder Robert Taylor, officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Hill Cemetery. Public viewing will be held today from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the church. — Stevens Funeral Home of Valdosta
