Sarah Lee Oglesby Burkhard

-- — Sarah Lee Oglesby Burkhard, 83, of Lake Park, Ga. passed away peacefully on Thursday, Nov. 21, 2013, at South Georgia Medical Center, Valdosta, Ga. following a brief illness.

Sarah was born Oct. 25, 1930, in Waycross, Ga., the daughter of the late Noah Jefferson Lee and the late Henrietta Morgan Lee.  She attended Waycross High School where she was active in basketball. After receiving her Nursing degree, she was employed by Waycross Memorial Hospital and later South Georgia Medical Center.   Sarah was a member of the Waycross Okefenokee Golf Club, Waycross Garden Club, Private Bridge Club, First Baptist Church (Waycross), the DAR, Colonial Dames, Francis Lake Golf Club and Francis Lake Bridge Club.

She enjoyed working in her yard and spending time with friends and loved ones. Sarah enjoyed animals, especially her dog, Sophie.  She was the family’s charming southern matriarch. Sarah was an active member of Lake Park First Baptist Church as long as her health permitted. Her death will most certainly leave a void in the community.

Preceded in death by her husband, Richard Burkhard and a brother, Robert Lee. Sarah is survived by two daughters, Leslie Oglesby (Henry) Ivey of Atlanta, Deborah Oglesby (John) Friedlein of Lake Park; two grandsons, Troy (Christin) Watson of Savannah, and Rick (Dyanne) Brown of Canton, Ga.; sisters, Eva L. Ivey of Jacksonville, Fla. and Rosemary L. Henderson of Thomasville; numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Sunday, Nov. 24, 2013, at 3 p.m. at Lake Park First Baptist Church with Pastor Jason Spell officiating.  Visitation will held on Sunday at the church one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be made to Wounded Warrior Project, PO Box 758517, Topeka, KS 66675, or online at www.woundedwarriorproject.org.
