Janie Smallwood - Lane

VALDOSTA — Janie Smallwood - Lane was born to the late James and Emma Reddick Smallwood on February 15, 1927 in Brooks County, Georgia. She received her education from Rosewald High School in Brooks County.Janie Smallwood-Lane accepted Christ at an early age.

She was a member of Simmon Hill Missionary Baptist Church Dixie, Georgia. While there she worked diligently, as a member on the usher board and served in many capacities. Janie Smallwood was married to the late Mr. Prince Howard Lane on February 16, 1947.  She was employed at the Presbyterian Home and Retirement Community, where she worked and retired after many years of dedicated services.

She passed from this life on Tuesday, September 3, 2013. She leaves to cherish her memories; a devoted daughter Sharon (Curtis Sr.) Sutton, Valdosta, GA; Three (Son-in-Laws) Joseph Smith, Manassas Park, VA, John Dykes, Jr. Waynesboro, GA, and Fred Roan, Thomasville, GA; Twelve Grandchildren, Curtis Jr. (Tasha) Sutton Valdosta, GA, Sheldon (Melanie) Smith, Manassas Park, VA, John  III  (Nicole) Dykes, Waynesboro, GA; LaGregory (Peggy) Dykes, Savannah, GA, Nikki Sutton Roberts, Valdosta, GA; Duante (Army) Dykes, Augusta, GA; Stephanie Smith, Manassas Park, VA, Jennifer Roan, Woodbridge, VA, Kristy (Tedrick) McIntosh, U.S. Army, Shawn Sr. (Yara) Sutton, U.S. Army, Oahu, Hawaii; Prince (Yolanda), Pensacola, FL, Mary (Keith) Green, Manassas Park, VA.; Seventeen Great- Grandchildren – Curtis III, Justin, Eryn,  Duntaneshia, LaGregory, Gabrielle, Calieb, Tamarion, Valerie, Vanessa, Zoe, Wesley, Shawn Jr., Aiden, Jayden, Kevin, and Joseph. Sisters: Carrie Jenkins, Ernestine Jackson and Claudine Higgins; Brothers: Alfred (Iralee) Smallwood, Floyd (Frankie) Smallwood, Jonathan (Laverne) Smallwood and Frank (Barbara) Smallwood and a host of compassionate nieces, nephews, cousins, church members and Friends.

Her daughter, Princess Marie Lane-Dykes preceded her mother only by a few hours on the same day.  She was also predeceased by her son, Rudolph Edward Lane, two Daughters (twins) Maggie Lane- Roan and Peggie Lane - Smith.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, September 7, 2013 at 12 p.m. at the Simmon Hill Missionary Baptist Church in Dixie, Georgia with pastor James Huewitt officiating.  Burial will follow in the church cemetery.  Viewing and visitation will be held on Friday, September 6, 2013 at the Stevens-McGhee Funeral Home in Quitman between the hours of 2 p.m. and 9 p.m. The family will receive relatives and friends for visitation on Friday, between the hours of 7:00 P.M. and 8:00 P.M. at the Stevens-McGhee Funeral Home in Quitman.  Condolences may be made at  Stevens-Mcghee Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
