Billy R. Bowen Sr., 68, of Lakeland, Ga., took Jesus’ hand and went to his eternal home Monday, Jan. 6, 2014 at his residence after a lengthy illness with a brain tumor. He was born July 25, 1945 to the late Leon and Louella (Giddens) Bowen in Atkinson County, Ga. He was employed at McCranie- Griner Chevrolet in Nashville as a paint and body specialist for over 45 years. He was a founding member and helped build the Mud Creek Christian Fellowship Church in Lanier County, Ga. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a brother Bobby Gene Bowen.
Survivors Include his wife, Pat Sirmans Bowen of Lakeland, Ga.; daughter and son-in-law, Tammy and Keith Exum, Nashville, Ga.; daughter and son-in-law, Abbie and Philip Dykes, Sparks, Ga.; son and daughter-in-law, Billy Ray and Kimberly Bowen, Jr., Lakeland, Ga.; step daughter, Beth and Joel Fulghum, Lakeland, Ga.; step daughter, Christy and Mark Schremmer , Palatka, Fla.; sister, Ludine Wooten, Brunswick, Ga.; sister, Christine Paulk, Pearson, Ga.; father-in-law, father-in-law, William Harry Sirmans, Lakeland, Ga.; 14 grandchildren; a number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 8, 2014 in the Mud Creek Christian Fellowship Church in Lanier County, Ga. with burial to follow in Live Oak Cemetery in Atkinson Co. Ga. He will be placed in the church one hour prior to services.
