James Ewul Smith
James Ewul Smith, 80, of Barnesville, died on Monday, March 27, 2006 in Spalding County. Mr. Smith was a native of Lakeland, Fla., but had made his home in Barnesville for a number of years. He was the son of the late Mr. Nath Thompson Smith and the late Mrs. Shelley Durden Smith. He was preceded in death by a sister, Luella Walker and by a brother, N.T. Smith. Mr. Smith retired from the United States Air Force and had worked as a Mail Carrier for the U.S. Postal Service. He was a Methodist.
Survivors are his wife, Dorothy (Dot) Smith of Barnesville; a daughter and son-in-law, Carol Anne and Brian Cooper of Lake Park, sons and daughters-in-law, Nathan and Adonna C. Smith of Valdosta, Scott and Anna Smith of Valdosta, James M. and Susan G. Smith of Valdosta ; and the mother of his children, Carolyn M. Smith of Barnesville; stepchildren, Anita and Eddie Jackson of Williamson, Robert Belote of Barnesville; a brother, William J. Smith of Barnesville, sisters, Nell Adams of Thomaston and Inabob Almon of Eustis, Florida; nine grandchildren; a number of nieces and nephews and other relatives.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, March 30, 2006, at 3 p.m. in the chapel of the Williams Funeral Home in Barnesville. The Rev. Franklin Gibson will officiate and burial will follow in Greenwood Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the Williams Funeral Home this evening from 6-8 p.m.

Mary Elizabeth Childs Montgomery
Mary Elizabeth Childs Montgomery, 89, of Eldorado, Ga. passed away Saturday, March 25, 2006 at Wellstar Cobb Hospital in Austell, Ga.
She was born on Sept. 3, 1916 in Turner County to the late Burton Brown and Willie Trummie Childs. She was a homemaker and member of Eldorado Baptist Church. She is preceded in death by her husband, Murray Bruce Montgomery who died Dec. 20, 1999 and one daughter, Betty Montgomery.
She is survived by five sons and daughters-in-law, Don and Linda Montgomery of Logansville, William (Bill) and Linda Montgomery of Dublin, Gene and Charlene Montgomery of Valdosta, Raymond and Dale Montgomery of Acworth and James and Linda Montgomery of Eldorado; 14 grandchildren including Melanie Godwin of Valdosta; 24 great-grandchildren; and one sister, Bill Fowler of Statesboro.
Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. today, March 29, 2006 at Eldorado Baptist Church with the Rev. Eddie Allen officiating. Burial will be held in Oakridge Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Jason Hill, Robert Hogan, Bruce Montgomery, Austin Montgomery, Jim Pason, and Zach Montgomery.

M.C. Cox, 66 of Lake Park, died on Sunday, March 26, 2006 at South Georgia Medical Center after a lengthy illness. Born on Aug. 29, 1939 in Hamilton, Ala., he was the son of the late John A. and Flossie Conway Cox and the widower of Virginia Lee Cox. He was a Vietnam veteran of the United States Air Force and was a member of the First Church of the Nazarene.
Survivors are his son, Thomas Cox of Atlanta; daughter and son-in-law, Trennia and Danny Johnson of Lake Park; grandsons, Jeremy Johnson and Cameron Johnson both of Lake Park; brother and sister-in-law, Marvin and Nondice Cox of Marion, Ohio; numerous nieces and nephews; sister-in-law, Wanda Ream of Adrian, Mich.; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Kenneth and Bunny Gambill of Jonesboro, Ark. and mother-in-law, Carma Kunkle of Adrian, Mich.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, March 30, 2006 in the chapel of the Carson McLane Funeral Home. Burial will follow in McLane Riverview Memorial Gardens. Lester Gene (Pops) Lewis
Lester Gene (Pops) Lewis, 63 of Valdosta, GA died suddenly on Friday, March 24, 2006 in Homestead, Fla. He was born on Feb. 19, 1943 in Nashville, Ga. He went to school in Clewiston, Fla. and then joined the United States Navy. During this time he met his wife in California. He worked as a millwright for more than 30 years, having worked as a supervisor for Allison Metal Fabrication and Foster Wheeler. He loved fishing and spending time with his boys.
He was greatly loved by his wife and family.
He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Carrol Lewis of Valdosta; sons and daughters-in-law, Mike and Teresa Lewis, Allan and Kim Lewis, Kenny (Pookie) Lewis all of Lake Park; grandchildren, David and Corey Lewis, Brooke and Heather Lewis all of Lake Park, Zack and Jordan Lewis of Atlanta, Tyler Lewis of Hahira; his mother, Oral Lee Lewis of Lake City, S.C.; brothers and sisters-in-law, Kenneth and Sue Lewis, Ronnie and Terry Lewis of Charleston, S.C., Donnie and Kathy Lewis of Lake City, S.C. of Clewiston, Fla.; sister and brother-in-law, Ona Lee and Jack Herring of Clewiston, Fla.; his parents-in-law, Elmer and Evelyn Bradley and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, W. L. Lewis and a brother, Garth L. Lewis.

Gene Vickers, 64, of Valdosta died Monday, March 27, 2006 at his home. He was born in Berrien County on Sept. 20, 1941 to the late Freddie P. and Rhoda Tyson Vickers and was a lifelong resident of this area. Mr. Vickers was the manager of Ameris Bank at Troupeville and a veteran of the U. S. Army. He was an active member of Greenwood Baptist Church where he had served in many positions. He loved being with his grandchildren, golfing, fishing and traveling.
