Rev. Verdie F. Bailey

NORMAN PARK, Ga. - Rev. Verdie F. Bailey, 78, died Sunday, Nov. 30, 2003, at South Georgia Medical Center after a long illness. Born in Ware County to the late Clifton and Janie Bailey, he had lived in Norman Park for 29 years. Rev. Bailey was a member of Pine Grove New Congregational Methodist Church of Alma, Ga., where he had pastored for 22 years. He had worked for Georgia Power for several years and had retired from sign painting.

Survivors include three daughters and sons-in-law, Mary and Albert Herring of Lake Park, Bonnie and James McKinnon and Ann and Gary Blankenship, all of Valdosta; seven grandchildren, Karen Tattersall, Tracey Calvin, Anthony Herring, Carl McKinnon, April Harrell, Ashley Blankenship, and Angela Coats, all of Valdosta; 10 great-grandchildren; and his sister, Velma Gillard of Bonaire, Ga.

Graveside services will be held 2 p.m., Wednesday, Dec. 3, 2003, at Corinth Baptist Church. The Rev. Raymond Gabbard will officiate. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. this evening at the McLane Lakewood Funeral Home.-- McLane Lakewood Funeral Home



Paul E. Carter, Sr.

HORSESHOE, Fla. -- Paul E. Carter, Sr., 77, of Horseshoe, Fla. passed away Monday, Dec. 1, 2003, at Gainesville, VA Medical Center, Gainesville, Fla. following an illness of some time. Paul retired from Occidental Chemical Co. where he worked for many years in the sanitation department and was a veteran of the United States Army. Mr. Carter was preceded in death by his wife, Eva Mae Carter and a son, Pace Randall Carter.

Survivors include two sons, Paul E. Carter Jr., Albany, Ga., and Raymond "Charlie" Carter, Lake Park; one daughter, Patsy Rogers, Lake Park; three sisters, Ruth Brigham, Floyd Williams and Opal Medders; a daughter-in-law, Brenda Carter, Jennings, Fla.; 14 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 3, 2003, in the chapel of Harry T. Reid Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery, Jasper. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. this evening at the funeral home. -- Harry T. Reid Funeral Home, Jasper, Fla.



Helen Wright Phelps

ADEL -- Helen Wright Phelps, 75, of Adel passed away Sunday, Nov. 30, 2003 at Memorial Hospital of Adel after a lengthy illness.

She was born Dec. 6, 1927, to the late H.L. and Willie Campbell Wright. Mrs. Phelps was a member of Westside Baptist Church and was a homemaker. She loved her family and enjoyed cooking.

Survivors include her husband, Alton Phelps; one son and daughter-in-law, Alan and Lisa Phelps of Adel; two daughters and sons-in-law, Karen and Darrell Bryan of Sparks, and Beth and Chuck Willis of Adel; two brothers, Billy Wright of Nashville and Ronnie Wright of Adel; five sisters, Lanell Taylor of Valdosta, Annette Wright of Adel, Sue Wright of Adel, Diane Daniels of White Springs, Fla., and Catherine Clevenger of Titusville, Fla.; six grandchildren, Heather Morris, Alana Dixon, Alda Thompson, Sheena Bryan, Trina Willis, and Cam Phelps; one great-grandchild, Mikayla Morris. She was preceded in death by one son, Donald Phelps; two brothers, H.L. Wright, Jr., and J.D. Wright; two sisters, Virgean Bailey and Dorothy Merrill.

Funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 3, 2003, at Westside Baptist Church with the Rev. Bob Willis and the Rev. John Hendley officiating. The body will lie in state one hour prior to service at the church. Interment will follow in the City Cemetery. Active pallbearers are Chris Morris, Jeremy Thompson, Andy Parrish, Michael Dixon, Jay Evans, and Charlie Saunders. Tyler Redding

Myrlee Tyler Redding, 88, of Valdosta, died on Monday, Dec. 1, 2003, at South Georgia Medical Center after a brief illness. She was born on Oct. 12, 1915, in Hahira, Ga., to the late Allen Tyler and Martha Bostick Tyler. Mrs. Redding was a member of First Assembly of God of Valdosta. She owned and operated Redding's Children's Nursery for many years and had also worked for Eldercare.

She is survived by her husband of 73 years, Mr. Buran L. Redding of Valdosta; a son and daughter-in-law, Herman and Betty Lou Redding of Valdosta; daughters and sons-in-law, Jeanette and Billy Maye of Newberry, Fla., Margie and Talmadge Howell of Palatka, Fla.; a daughter-in-law, Helen Redding of Hahira; 10 grandsons; 24 great grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; four sisters-in-law; one brother-in-law and many nieces and nephews. Mrs. Redding was preceded in death by two sons, Harold Edward Redding and Tony Redding, two brothers, A.T. Tyler and Eddie Tyler, and three sisters, Floye Mae Tyler, Ethlene Sheppard and Gladys Parker.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 3, 2003, in the Chapel of the Carson McLane Funeral Home with Pastor Bill Cotterill and Rev. Jimmy White officiating. Entombment will follow in the Riverview Memorial Gardens Mausoleum. The family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 6-8 p.m. at the Carson McLane Funeral Home.

Elizabeth Register

LAKE CITY, Fla. -- Mrs. Gertrude Elizabeth Register, 90, of Lake City, Fla. died Saturday, Nov. 29, 2003 in the Lake City Extended Care Center, Lake City, Fla. following a long illness.

Mrs. Register was a native of Quitman, Ga., and had resided in Statenville and Valdosta before moving to Lake City, Fla. six years ago. She was the daughter of the late Morris and Addie Sauls Spellers. She was a homemaker and member of the St. Augustine Road Church of Christ, Valdosta. She was the widow of the late Okane Register.

Survivors include four daughters, Jeanette (Robert) Maine of Lake City, Fla., Audrey (Bobby) Williams of Sopchoppy, Fla., Winnie Faye (Bobby) Trowell and Rachel Ann (Johnny) Chastain, both of Valdosta; four sons, Morris Register and Arnold Register, both of Valdosta, Alvin (Mary) Register of Statenville and Russell Register of Cairo; 30 grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren also survive. Mrs. Register was preceded in death by six children, Lynberg, Annette, Ellery, Otto, Bud and Charles Register.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 3, 2003, in the Sardis Baptist Church, Echols County, Ga., with Evangelist Evans McMullen officiating. Interment will be held in Carter Cemetery, Echols County. Visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. this evening at Guerry Funeral Home, 2659 S.W. Waco Trotter

GAINESVILLE, Ga. -- Mr. Richard Waco Trotter, 83, of Edgewater Terrace, Gainesville, passed away Sunday, Nov. 30, 2003, at his residence following an extended illness.

Memorial services will be held at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 3, 2003, in the Memorial Park Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. Drewery Loggins will officiate. The family will receive friends after the service Wednesday at the funeral home.

Mr. Trotter was born in Habersham County to the late Robert Guy Trotter and Bertha Ophelia Church Trotter. He served with the U.S Army Air Force during World War II. He had worked with the Chambers Lumber Company and later retired from Big Dutchman Poultry Equipment Company. Mr. Trotter attended Habersham College and was active in the American Legion, 40 & 8, The VFW and The Gideons and was a member of Central Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his brothers Cecil L. Trotter, and Randall Trotter.

Survivors include his son and daughter-in-law, Richard F. and Susan Trotter, Athens, Ga.; daughter, Patricia Ann Trotter Giles, Valdosta; brother and sister-in-law, Gerald D. and Geneva Trotter, Gainesville; sisters, Christine Palmer, Habersham County, Bertha Ophelia Bangley, Monroe, Ga.; half sister and husband Cora Bell and Cleborn Hammond, of Gainesville; granddaughter and husband, Lisa and Rob Gilchrist of Valdosta; granddaughter and husband, Sherri and Tom Corker, Sausalito, Calif.; granddaughter and husband, Linda Giles and Peter Riebling, Greenwood, S.C.; granddaughter and husband, Leah and Steve Almeida, Atlanta; great-grandchildren, Savannah Jane and Thomason Gilchrist, Jourdan Angel Corker and Jennifer Almeida. -- Memorial Park Funeral Home, Gainesville Ga.



Penelope Irene Luckey

Penelope Irene Luckey, 66, of Hahira passed away Monday, Dec. 1, 2003, at her residence after a lengthy illness. As per Mrs. Luckey's wishes, she will be cremated. -- Music Funeral Services of Valdosta
