Dominic H. Barros

DIXIE Dominic Barros, 37, of Dixie died Saturday, Nov. 8, 2003, at

Keaton Beach, Fla. He was the husband of Vicky Barros.

Dominic was born on Nov. 29, 1965, to Patricia Syrjala and the late

Reginald Barros Sr.

Dominic was a lifelong resident of Cape Cod Massachusetts. He attended

Cape Cod Regional Technical School in Harwich, Mass., where he studied

plumbing and heating. He owned Barros Construction Roofing and Siding

for many years. Dominic moved to South Georgia to settle down with his

wife and children in this warm and loving community.

Most recently, he was employed with Hutchinson Construction. He valued

hard work and spent most of his spare time making improvements to his

home and enjoying his family.

Dominic loved fishing, playing cards, bowling, building just about

anything, old westerns, jumping on the trampoline with his son and his

new country lifestyle. He was an adventurous big kid.

Besides his wife, he is survived by his son, Dominic of Dixie; his

daughter, Arianna, South Yarmouth, Mass.; his mother, Patricia Syrjala

of Hyannis, Mass.; four brothers, Reggie Barros, Hyannis, Mass.;

Charlie Barros, South Dennis, Mass.; Mark Barros, Marstons Mills,

Mass., and Chris Rapoza, New Bedford, Mass.; five sisters, Patty

Hammond of Hyannis, Mass.; Leanne Alex, West Yarmouth, Mass.; Michelle

Syrjala, New Bedford, Mass.; Jeanne Barros, Hyannis, Mass.; Carmen

Rapoza, New Bedford, Mass. He was also survived by many aunts, uncles,

nieces, nephews and many friends. He was predeceased by his brother,

Micheal Barros; and a sister, Kimberly Rapoza.

Memorial services will be held Friday, Nov. 21, 2003, at the Okapilco

Baptist Church, Tallokas Road, Dixie. Donations in his memory may be

Rosalie E. Fender

STOCKTON Rosalie E. Fender, 78, of Stockton passed away Monday

afternoon, Nov. 17, 2003, at Louis Smith Memorial Hospital. She was

born in St. Augustine, Fla., and had lived in Stockton approximately

35 years. Rosalie had worked at Lakeland Villa Convalescent Center and

Louis Smith Memorial Hospital. She was a member of the Lakeland Church

of God. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Jack

Fender.

Survivors include her two daughters and son-in-law, Sondra Marie

Johnson of Lakeland, Ga., Chris and Glenn Bryant of Stockton; two sons

and daughters-in-law, John Edward and Martha Nell Lane, Valdosta,

Jackie and Tammy Fender of Stockton; grandchildren, Sondra Leigh

Harris, Nona Dent, Levi C. Johnson III, Barney Bryant, Roger Dale

Bryant, Colby Marcatos, Marsha Lynn Courson, Andrea Lane, Ethan McRae,

Sage Fender, Stanton Fender, Rebecca Lynn Fender; and many

great-grandchildren; sister, Hilda Ratcliffe, St. Augustine, Fla.; and

a number of nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Thursday, Nov. 20, 2003, in

the Lakeland Chapel of Music Funeral Services. Burial will follow in

Lovejoy Cemetery. Visitation will begin after 3 p.m. today with the

Francis Coleman Gates

NASHVILLE Francis Coleman Gates, 91, of Nashville died Monday, Nov.

17, 2003, at Berrien County Hospital.

He was born on April 14, 1912, in Columbia County, Fla., to Edward J.

and Fannie Mae Hayes Gates. He was a retired U.S. attorney; member of

Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church; retired member of the Florida Bar

Association; and a veteran of Army Air Corps of WWII with the rank of

sergeant. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ethelee Gaskins Gates;

and a son, David Gates.

He is survived by one daughter, Winona Reed of Jacksonville, Fla.; four

grandchildren; and one great-grandson.

Graveside funeral service will be held at 3 p.m., today, Nov. 19, 2003,

in Gaskins Cemetery with the Rev. Junior Swain officiating. The family

will receive friends at the cemetery before and following the service.

Jeremiah King Giffin

HAHIRA Jeremiah King Giffin, 23, of Hahira died Saturday, Nov. 8,

2003, at Keaton Beach, Fla. He was born in Valdosta on May 5, 1980, in

Valdosta to Irvena King Giffin and the late Jerry Giffin. Jeremiah

graduated from Hamilton County High School in Jasper, Fla., and loved

playing sports. He was employed with Tom Hutchinson Construction and

was a member of the Hahira First Baptist Church.

Survivors include his mother, Irvena K. Giffin of Homerville; brother,

Josh Giffin of Hahira; stepfather, Don Colombaroni of Lake City, Fla.;

maternal grandfather, Woodrow King of Homerville; several aunts,

uncles, cousins and other loving friends.

Memorial services will be held at 11:30 a.m., today, Nov. 19, 2003, at

Hahira First Baptist Church with the Rev. David Gordon officiating. The

family will receive friends this evening from 9:30 a.m. until service

time at the church. A visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m. this

evening at Roundtree Funeral in Homerville. In lieu of flowers, the

family requests that memorials be made to the Four Friends Fund at

Charles Matthew Matt' Hutchinson

HAHIRA Charles Matthew "Matt" Hutchinson, 24, of Hahira died on

Saturday, Nov. 8, 2003, at Keaton Beach, Fla. Born on June 18, 1979, in

Birmingham, Ala., where he lived until 1990, Matthew was a 1997

graduate of Lowndes High School where he played baseball for four

years. He then attended Georgia College and State University at

Milledgeville on a baseball scholarship. He returned home to continue

his studies at Georgia Military College and joined the family business,

Hutchinson Construction, Inc. He was a member of the Church of The

Harvest. Matthew was an avid outdoorsman. Matthew was greatly loved by

his family and friends and will be sorely missed.

Survivors are his parents, Danny and Sandra Hutchinson of Hahira;

brother and sister-in-law, Joshua and Kasey Hutchinson of Conyers;

brother, Caleb Hutchinson of Hahira; nephew and niece, Parker and

Ryleigh Hutchinson of Conyers; grandparents, Lester and Lou Blankenship

of Smiths, Ala.; uncles and aunts, Tom and Rose Hutchinson of Valdosta,

Curtis and Shirley Hutchinson of Thomaston, Ward and Carmel Hutchinson

of Surprise, Ariz., Earl Hutchinson of Phenix City, Ala., Steve and

Cathy Hutchinson, Ann Hutchinson of Valdosta, Ann Hutchinson of Phenix

City, Ala., Ronnie and Joy Blankenship of Auburn, Ala., Ruth Bebo and

Vera Robertson of Valley, Ala.; his man's best friend, "Bakus;"

numerous cousins, other relatives and the Hutchinson Construction

Family. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Jessie and Ella

Hutchinson.

A memorial service will be held for Matthew and his fianc Amanda Leigh

Player on Thursday, Nov. 20, 2003, at 4 p.m. at Crossroads Baptist

Roy Jeffery Lynch

VALDOSTA Roy Jeffery Lynch, 45, of Valdosta, died on Sunday, Nov. 16,

2003, at his residence. He was born on Dec. 17, 1957, in Valdosta. Mr.

Lynch was a member of New Life Community Church in Lake Park. Survivors include his wife, Leah Nickell Lynch of Valdosta; son, Aaron

Lynch; and daughter, Kathryn Norsworthy, both of Valdosta; son, Glynn

Norsworthy of Camp Lejeune, N.C.; mother, Joan Kight of Suwanee, Fla.;

brothers, Steve Lewis of Macon, Joey Wolfe of Warner Robins; sister,

Debbie Onstott of Irvin, Texas; and 12 nieces and nephews. He was

preceded in death by his father, Gene Lynch; and stepfather, Blaine

Kight.

Graveside services for Mr. Lynch will be at 2 p.m. on Thursday, Nov.

20, 2003, in McLane Riverview Memorial Gardens with Pastor Keith

Allsbrook officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral

home on this evening from 6-8 p.m. Carson McLane Funeral Home Amanda Leigh Player VALDOSTA Amanda Leigh Player, 20, of Valdosta, died on Saturday, Nov.

8, 2003, at Keaton Beach, Fla. She was born in Hahira on June 20, 1983.

Amanda was a 2001 graduate of Lowndes High School where she was a bat

girl for the baseball team. She had attended Valdosta State University

and Georgia Military College and was a member of Zeta Tau Alpha

Sorority. Amanda was employed by Hutchinson Construction and Mike and

Melinda Ruff. Amanda was a member of Corinth Baptist Church. She was

greatly loved by her family and friends and especially her grandmother,

Beatrice "Granny Bea" Folsom.

Survivors are her father and stepmother, Dell and Becky Player of

Valdosta; her mother, Elizabeth Player of Florence, Ala.; her friend

and baby sister, Amelia Player; sister, Amber Painter of Valdosta;

brother, Austin Davis of Valdosta; grandparents, Beatrice and James

Folsom of Hahira, Donald Player of Valdosta, Ralph and Sara Hendrix of

Valdosta, Judy Prestidge of Florence, Ala.; special aunts and uncles,

Marcia and Roger Dodd of Lake Park, Patricia Young of Hahira, Steve and

Montye Player of Lake Park; great-grandmother, Effie Huff of Hahira;

her babies," Maggie and Reagan Ruff; "special cousins," Kristen

McLeod, R.J. Young, Kyle Young; numerous other aunts, uncles and

cousins; special friend, Maranda Brogdon; and her ZTA Sorority sisters

and her "woman's best friend," Bakus. She was preceded in death by her

grandfather, Bob "Papa Bob" Johnston.

Howard Pearsall Roberts

THE VILLAGES, Fla. Howard Pearsall Roberts died Monday, Nov. 17,

2003, at Villages Regional Hospital in The Villages, Fla.

He was born on Nov. 25, 1926, to Esther Pearsall and James Archibald

Roberts in Douglas, Coffee County, Ga. He was predeceased by a son,

James Archibald Roberts; and a brother, James Archibald Roberts Jr. He is survived by his wife, Beth Kirkland Roberts, The Villages, Fla.;

brother, John Wayne Roberts, Cordele; sister and brother-in-law,

Shirley Roberts (Jeff) Hunt of Valdosta; nieces and their spouses, Pam

Roberts (Bob) Gale, Welaka, Fla., Kay Roberts (Carl) Glen, Franklin,

N.C., Teresa Hunt (Terrance) Stein, Leslie Hunt Singleton, Esther Hunt,

all of Atlanta, Susan Hunt (Ben) Futch, Lake Park, Cynthia Roberts

(Shane) Stanfield, Atlanta, and Stefanie Roberts of Beauford.

Lillian T. Smith

ADEL Lillian T. Smith, 95, of Adel died Nov. 18, 2003, at South

Georgia Medical Center.

She was born June 8, 1908, in Cook County to the late Joseph and

Augusta Mathis Tomlinson. She lived most of her life in Cook County.

She was a homemaker and member of Westside Baptist Church. She was

preceded in death by her husband, Christopher Columbus "Lumby" Smith;

one daughter, Reideth O'Quinn; and one granddaughter, Gail Taylor. She is survived by her grandchild and spouse, Pansy and Kenneth H. Tate

of Waycross; four great-grandchildren, Christopher Scott Taylor,

Chelsea, Ala., Lori Taylor Pitts, McDonough, Leigh Ann Tate, Valdosta,

Kelly Diane Tate, Bonita Springs, Fla.; three

great-great-grandchildren, Jordan, Joshua and Abigail Taylor of

Chelsea, Ala.; one brother, Elwood Tomlinson, Lake Park; two sisters,

Mae Smith of Valdosta and Myrtice Landers of Anderson, S.C. Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at Westside Baptist
