VALDOSTA — Bro. Vernon Kent Roberson, 54, was born  on May 16, 1959 in Clinch County (Homerville, Ga.). He departed this life on Friday, Nov. 15, 2013 at his home in Valdosta. He was the son of Eddie Lee Smith Roberson and the late Ralph Roberson.

Vernon attended Valdosta public schools. His love of  nature and wildlife was evident in his early years. After attending school he went on to work at Langdale Lumber and later, Scruggs Asphalt Companies. Before  becoming disabled, he was a private contractor (driver) or Swannee Timber Harvesting Company of Blackshear, Ga.

He was a loyal and original member of New Life Baptist Church where  he served as superintendent and head of the trustee board. He later became a dedicated member to the Church at Pine Hill-under the leadership of Pastor Alex Bunion where he was chosen to become a deacon and also was a trustee.

Vernon took his relation with God, compassion for all creatures, his work and anything that was right to heart. He was a man of wisdom, knowledge, and understanding which he would gladly share with anyone. He was a spirit filled-baptized believer in Jesus Christ. He was a few words but possessed a humor that was  keen and respectful. He was proceeded in death by his father, Ralph Roberson, nephew, Sivad Roberson, paternal grandparents, Benjamin and Lillian Roberson (Valdosta), maternal grandparents, Alfred and Essie Mae Smith (Homerville).

His legacy is cherished by a loving and devoted mother, Eddie Lee Roberson; two sisters, Delores Dennison (Don), Sharon Roberson (Rick Sirmans); two brothers, Winfred and Benjamin Roberson, fiancee, Gloria Dukes, all of Valdosta; devoted friend, and designated brother of the family, Jeremy Thomas (John Duke) of Homerville; four nephews, Trenton (Erin), Selwyn (fiancee, Tiffany Soma) James, Noah and Uzziel Roberson; two nieces, Nekaybaw and Nefertari Sirmans; two great nieces, aunts, uncles, cousins; and a host of friends.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 23, 2013 at Union Cathedral Church. Bishop Wade S. McCrae is the Pastor and Pastor Alex Bunion will officiate. Burial will follow in Sunset Hill Cemetery. — Final rites are entrusted to Harrington Funeral Home.
