HAHIRA

Scott Walker

Scott Walker, 47, of Hahira died Monday, Sept. 24, 2007, at South Georgia Medical Center of an apparent heart attack. He was born on Oct. 25, 1959, in Tampa, Fla., to Betty Jean Yearwood Walker and the late W. Wallace Walker and had lived in Lowndes County for many years. Mr. Walker was a truck driver with Sanderson Farms and a very avid hunter and fisherman. He was a member of the Hahira United Methodist Church.

Survivors include his daughter and her fiancée, Courtney Walker and Paul Coppage of Hahira; his mother, Betty Jean Walker of Valdosta; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Jenny and William Kenyon of Lake Park, Stacy and Bill Nicoll of Oviedo, Fla.; mother of his daughter, Greda Stalvey Walker of Hahira; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Wallace Walker; and grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. George Yearwood and Mary Lee Walker.

Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 27, 2007, at the Hahira United Methodist Church with the Rev. Ken Morgan and Rev. Lynn Hurley officiating. Burial will follow in the Friendship Cemetery. Mr. Walker will lie in state at the church for one hour prior to the service. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. today at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association or the Hahira United Methodist Church. MONTVALE, VA

Hugh Scott Blanton

Hugh Scott Blanton, 53, Montvale, Va., died Saturday, Sept. 22, 2007, at his home after a lengthy illness.

He was born in Valdosta Sept. 25, 1953, to the late Bobby and Mary Ann Blanton. Scott lived in Valdosta, Augusta and Montvale, Va. He served in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Kitty Hawk off the coast of Viet Nam.

He is survived by two sisters and one brother-in-law, Lynn and Michael Sherman of Fredricksburg, Va., Robbie Moody of Atlanta and the late Dr. Roy Moody; his nieces and nephews include Wendy Layne, Fayetteville, N.C., Sara and Chris Coble, Fredricksburg, Va., Sam Sherman, Fredricksburg, Va., Andrea and Jay Maurer, Cumming, Ga., Josh and Libby Moody, Panama City, Fla., and Elizabeth and Trip Alexander, Auburn, Ala. His great nieces and nephews include Madelyn Coble, Fredricksburg, and Will, Sam and Lilly Maurer, Cumming.

Funeral services are scheduled for 10 a.m., Thursday, Sept. 27, 2007, at East Chapel in Roanoke, Va., with the Rev. Steve Dollar officiating. The body will be cremated and the remains will be interred in Arlington National Cemetery in Washington, D.C. The family suggests memorials be sent to Woodhaven Employee Christmas Fund, 13055 West Lynchburg/Salem Turnpike, Montvale, VA 24122-0168 or to the charity of your choice. — Oakey’s Funeral Home, Roanoke, Va.

Ida Hadley

Ida Hadley, 61 of Morven died on Monday, Sept. 24, 2007, at the Brooks County Hospital Emergency Room in Quitman. Funeral arrangements will be announced later by Stevens-McGhee Funeral Home of Quitman.
