Grover Cleveland (G.C.) Arnold Jr.
Grover Cleveland (G. C.) Arnold, Jr., 85, of Valdosta died Saturday, September 15, 2007 at South Georgia Medical Center. He was born on November 18, 1921 in Lowndes County to the late Grover C.,Sr. and Minnie Wisenbaker Arnold. Mr. Arnold was a member of the Central Avenue Church of Christ and a veteran of the U. S. Navy, having served in World War II. He served as a firefighter in the U. S. Navy and returned to Valdosta after his military service to work at the Valdosta Fire Department where he retired as Assistant Fire Chief in 1985. Upon retiring from the Fire Department he became a full-time farmer and rancher.
Survivors include his wife, Jewell H. Arnold of Valdosta; daughter and son-in-law, Carolyn and David Roddey of Hahira; son and daughter-in-law, Cleve and Dee Arnold of Valdosta; three grandchildren and their spouses, David, IV and Becky Roddey, John and Toni Roddey, Emily Arnold, three great grandchildren, Elizabeth Roddey, Cody Roddey and Cheyenne Roddey all of Valdosta, his sister, Evelyn Dasher of Valdosta, two brothers and a sister in law, Loyce and Ruby Lee Arnold and Durward Arnold all of Valdosta and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a brother, William Francis Arnold.
Funeral services will be held at 11am, Tuesday, September 18, 2007, in the chapel of Carson McLane Funeral Home with Mr. John Klimko and Mr. J. C. McMullen officiating. Burial will follow in the Dasher Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Monday from 7-9 p.m. at the funeral home. Calhoun W. (Bill) Hendrix, Sr., 84, of Lake Park died Sunday, September 16, 2007, at the Langdale Hospice House. Funeral arrangements are incomplete and will be announced by the Carson McLane Funeral Home.
