Carolyn Bass Rhodes
Carolyn Bass Rhodes, 72, of Quitman passed away Tuesday Sept. 11, 2007, at Lakehaven Nursing Home after a lengthy illness.
Born in Brooks County, she was the daughter of James Columbus Sr. and Pearl Alene Roach Bass. She was a retired clerk for Maddox Drugs and a member of Ochlawilla Baptist Church.
She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, James Edwin and Candace Rhodes of Quitman; five grandchildren, Jeremy, Jessica, Will, Nicholas and Reese; two sisters, Jean Edmisten of Live Oak, Fla., Dot (Jimmy) O’Neal of Cherry Lake, Fla.; three brothers, Lamar (Brenda) Bass of Valdosta, James “Jimmy” Bass of Adel and Bobby Bass of Quitman. She was preceded in death by her husband, Louie Rhodes.
Graveside services will be held Friday, Sept. 14, 2007, at 11 a.m. in Oak Hill Cemetery with the Rev. Dewey Fountain officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Thursday from 6-8 p.m. The family will meet at the Ochlawilla Fellowship Hall Thursday at 4:30 p.m.

VALDOSTA
J.Y. Brooks Jr.
J.Y. Brooks Jr., 91, of Valdosta died Monday, Sept. 10, 2007, at his home. He was born in Waverly, Ky., on Oct. 20, 1915, to the late John Yancy Sr. and Ann Eliza Griggs Brooks and had lived in Valdosta since 1938. Mr. Brooks was a member of the First United Methodist Church and a retired salesman with Valdosta Cigar and Tobacco Company. He served in the U.S. Air Force during WWII and was a member of the American Legion.
Survivors include three cousins, Truman Griggs, Peggy Griggs Berry and Jean Griggs McClure, all of Henderson, Ky.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, Sept. 14, 2007, at the Riverview Memorial Gardens Mausoleum Chapel with the Rev. Thomas Mason officiating. Entombment will follow in the Riverview Mausoleum. The family will receive friends on Thursday from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice of South Georgia, P.O. Box 1727, Valdosta, GA 31603-1727. Kenneth Duff, 77, died Tuesday, Sept. 11, 2007, at his residence. Funeral arrangements are incomplete at this time and will be announced by Carson McLane Funeral Home.
