Margery “Mardi’ Barnes
Margery “Mardi” Barnes, 84, of Valdosta, died on Friday, Jan. 20, 2006, at her residence after a lengthy illness.
Born on Feb. 15, 1921, in Keen, N.H., she was the daughter of the late James F. and Dorothy Abbott Claverie and the widow of Charles Wesley Barnes, Jr. who died in 1991.
She was raised in Boston, Mass., and graduated from Thayer Academy in 1939 and Connecticut College in 1943, majoring in economics. She worked for the Office of Scientific Research and Development in the Radiation Laboratory, as office manager of the family business, Barnes Drug Store, and as the owner of Barnes Book Store.
She was a former member of the Valdosta Junior Service League, a supporter of Annette Howell Center for the Arts, Valdosta Symphony Orchestra, Hospice of South Georgia, Friends of the Library, the Soup Kitchen, and was a former member of the Book Review and a member of Christ Episcopal Church.
Survivors are two sons and one daughter-in-law, Charles W. III and Sallie Barnes and James Abbott Barnes all of Valdosta; one daughter and son-in-law, Mardi Barnes Maxwell and Bert III of Macon; grandchildren, Ellen Mixon and her husband Keith of Athens, Charlie Barnes IV of Valdosta, Margery Maxwell of Arlington, Va., Bert Maxwell IV and Dorothy Maxwell both of Macon, James Adam Barnes of Lakeland; a great grandson, Stephen August Mixon of Athens; a sister-in-law, Betty Barnes Nicholson of Atlanta and numerous nieces and nephews. She was also preceded in death by two sisters and a brother.
Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. today at Sunset Hill Cemetery with the Rev. Peter Ingeman, the Rev. Lee Shafer, Deacon Karyl Miller and Deacon Patricia Marks officiating.

Jane Streetman Hallock Bowes
Jane Streetman Hallock Bowes, 80, formerly of Lakeland, Fla., died on Friday, Jan. 20, 2006, at her residence in Valdosta. Born on October 9, 1925, in Pensacola, Fla., she was the daughter of the late Frank and Myra Quina Streetman. Among her many professions she was a dance instructor and owned her own school of dance in Bartow, Fla. She had also been a bookkeeper in Lakeland, Fla., and an airport manager in Gainesville, Fla. In her latter years she was a homemaker, a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Valdosta and was active in the Republican Women’s Club.
Survivors are a daughter and son-in-law, Rebecca and Tim Murphy of Valdosta and Rebecca’ father, Gene S. Bowes of Woolwine, Va.; a son, Norman Hallock Jr. of Lakeland, Fla.; grandchildren, Abigail Murphy of Valdosta, Christopher Douglas of Lakeland, Fla.; four great grandchildren; sister, Rita Hill of New Port Richey, Fla.; nephew, Forrest D. Hill III and niece, Marisa Hill both of New Port Richey; and a number of cousins. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Nancy Hallock Burr; a brother, Mark Streetman and her first husband, Norman Hallock Sr.
A funeral Mass will be held at 12:10 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 23, 2006, at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Valdosta with Father John O’Brien officiating. Graveside services will be held at 1 p.m. on Wednesday at the Oak Hill Burial Park in Lakeland, Fla., with a priest from St. Joseph Catholic Church officiating. Mrs. Mary Francis Griner Bowlin, 68, of Lake City, passed away Thursday, Jan. 19, 2006, at a Lake City hospital.
Mrs. Bowlin was born in Cottondale, Fla., and had lived in Bay County for many years. She was Baptist by faith, and loved spending time with her family and friends.
Survivors include her two sons, Bill E. Slaughter, Jr. and wife Cindy of Valdosta and Bobby C. Slaughter and wife Melisa of Fountain, Fla.; a daughter, Pamela Mizzell of Jackson; a brother, Lester Griner of Lake City; and her grandsons, Cody Clayton Slaughter, Donald Edward Marshall, Scotty Chadwick Slaughter and wife Kerri and Joshua David Slaughter.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. today at the Kent-Forest Lawn Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Floyd Wright officiating. Entombment will follow at the Chapel of Love Mausoleum at Forest Lawn Memorial Cemetery. Ruth Elizabeth Jarvis
Ruth Elizabeth Jarvis, 96, of Quitman died Friday, Jan. 20, 2006, at the Presbyterian Home after a lengthy illness.
Born in Brooks County, she was a homemaker and a member of the Baptist Faith.
She is survived by two daughters, Mary Jane Seago of Valdosta, Virginia Spencer of Quitman; two sons, Donald (Catherine) Jarvis of Crawfordsville, Fla., Billy Jarvis of Quitman; one brother, Frank Harris of Odom; and numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Jan. 23 in Oak Hill Cemetery with the Rev. Ray Calvin officiating.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home tonight from 6-8 p.m.

Michael Todd Webb, 41, of Valdosta died Friday, Jan. 20, 2006, at South Georgia Medical Center.
He was born on Dec. 15, 1964, in Valdosta and was a lifelong resident of Lowndes County. Michael was a construction truck driver and attended Christ the King Episcopal Church.
Survivors include his son, Michael Aaron Webb of Valdosta; his daughter, Caitlin Elizabeth Webb of Lakeland; his mother, Monya Merwin Webb of Valdosta; his father, Wayne Webb of Adel; brother and sister in law, Wesley Wayne Jr. and Barbara Webb of Denver, Colo.; sister and brother-in-law, Laura Leigh and Danny Hoover of Adel; three nephews and one niece; his grandmother, Margaret Merwin of Hahira; his uncles and aunts, Charlie and Pam Merwin of Adel; Phillip and Barbara Merwin of Hahira; JoAnn Webb Burnett of Hahira and Nadine Merwin of Valdosta. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Jack Merwin, Leon and Ernestine Webb and Mignon Murray.
