VALDOSTA — A 56-year-old man drowned Sunday night in a pond off of Kinderlou Road.

The body of Gary Sandlin was found Monday morning, according to Lowndes County Sheriff's Office Capt. Stryde Jones.

Jones said there is nothing suspicious about the case, but it is still under investigation.

He said authorities believe Sandlin was walking home from a friend's house like he did on many other occasions. The walk included crossing a dam.

"We believe he lost his footing and fell into the water," Jones said. "We are being told by his family that he was not the strongest swimmer."
