VALDOSTA — The Valdosta-Lowndes County Conference Center and Tourism Authority and the Valdosta Lowndes Arts Commission were selected to receive a Co-Op Marketing Grant from the Georgia Tourism Foundation totaling $21,500.

The grant, awarded by the Tourism Division of the Georgia Department of Economic Development, will be used to augment the marketing efforts presently under way between the two organizations in addition to making new projects possible.

New projects are to include a new cooperative marketing campaign aimed toward new and expanded art exhibits, new festivals and events, and the cultivation of relationships with Moody Air Force Base to incorporate the arts as well as area attractions. Current projects being supplemented by the award include billboard advertising, production of the annual visitor guide, trolley advertising, print advertising, trade shows, Web site enhancement, and creation and marketing of special events.

In an effort to attract tourism to the area, the VLCCCTA and the VLAC have joined forces to implement cultural experience and other events that foster diversity to meet the needs of both meeting planners and leisure travelers.

Through this cooperative marketing effort, $670,525 is expected to be generated through direct revenue with a $1,286,751 economic impact.

The VLCCCTA competed against 83 other applicants for a piece of the $1.3 million in funds available. Seventy-four of the 84 applicants were awarded funding.
