PHENIX CITY, Ala. —
After helping her son escape from county jail, a 49-year-old Alabama woman has been sentenced to seven years in prison.
The Ledger-Enquirer of Columbus reports (http://bit.ly/TOffa3 ) Loretta Ann Singletary, of Phenix City, has been sentenced on charges of helping to facilitate a jailbreak.
Officials say her son, Adam W. Barringer, a convicted murderer serving a life sentence without parole, escaped from the Russell County Jail with two other inmates in late March. Before escaping, authorities say Barringer called his mother to arrange for his brother to pick him up.
After escaping and prompting a manhunt, Barringer and an accomplice were arrested within a mile of the jail when a tipster recognized them.
Singletary is also ordered to pay a $2,500 fine, and Barringer’s brother has yet to appear in court.
