‘The Marine’ review

‘The Marine’ (Action: 1 hour, 31 minutes); Starring: John Cena, Robert Patrick and Kelly Carlson; Director: John Bonito; Rated: PG-13 (Sensuality, strong violence and profanity)

Movie Review: John Triton (Cena) has just watched five malevolent criminals abduct his wife, Kate (Carlson). A seasoned combat Marine, Triton goes after the crooks, enacting his own style of macho bravado and rescue. One could see more action, as pitiful as it was, watching University of Miami and Florida International University football players fight in just one quarter (Saturday, Oct. 14, 2006). So-so action and cheesy lines are all one gets with ‘Marine.’ While WWE wrestler John Cena is good on the action, he is out of place when it comes to acting. He delivers each line as if he is reading blurred cards. He even looks more out of place when acting along side Kelly Carlson, his love interest in this action-oriented mess. Kept waiting any moment for him to reveal to his wife that he is gay and having an affair. What? That concept would have been a better story line than the total action, money, crew and stuntmen needed to make this mediocrity directed by first-timer John Benito. The Rock must be rolling over in his bed in his huge mansion.

Grade: D (No honors here.)
