Diop named Player of the Week

VALDOSTA — Valdosta State's Patrick Diop was named the Gulf South Conference Player of the Week on Tuesday, following an impressive 38-point performance against West Florida, the most points by a GSC player since the 2008-09 season.

Diop carried the Blazers back from a 21-point first-half deficit against the Argonauts, although the Blazers still lost 99-93.

Diop led all scorers with 38 points in 38 minutes, shooting 50 percent from the floor and 44.4 percent from behind the arc. Diop also connected on 92 percent (12 of 13) of his free throws in the loss.

Of Diop's 38 points, 22 came in the second half, as the Blazers continued their comeback. He also added six assists, four steals and three rebounds.
