Clinch wins against previously undefeated Irwin Co.

Ocilla — The Clinch County Panthers (3-3, 2-0) earned a timely region win in Ocilla Friday night, holding off the previously-unbeaten Irwin County Indians (4-1-1, 1-1) for a 30-24 comeback victory.

The prospects of a victory didn't look good for the majority of the game for Clinch County, as the Panthers trailed 10-0 at halftime and 17-0 midway through the third quarter.

However, the Panthers offense awakened with a vengeance after falling behind by 17.

Clinch County finally found the end zone late in the third quarter, scoring a touchdown to cap of a long, methodical 90-yard drive to cut the Indians' lead to 17-8.

Just minutes later, Clinch scored for a second time, again converting the two-point conversion, to trim the lead to just one point at 17-16.

Down 24-16 in the fourth quarter, the Panthers used one final surge to pull off the upset and move to 2-0 in region play.  Clinch County scored twice, the final time with just four minutes remaining, to win 30-24.

The Panthers will look to build off their season-defining victory next Friday night, as they travel to Rochelle to take on Wilcox County.  Irwin County will look to rebound as they too hit the road for a region contest with Lanier County.
