Blake Smith commits to Andrew College

VALDOSTA — Blake Smith has played baseball for much of his life. Which is why it is no surprise that Smith has committed to play baseball at the collegiate level.

Smith is 18 years old, 5-foot-10-inches, and 140 pounds and he isn’t afraid to get his cleats dirty. He was born and raised in Valdosta, and is very close to his family. He is the middle child out of a brother and sister, and has two loving parents that have always stuck by his side and shown support for his baseball career.

As a recent graduate of Lowndes High School, Smith has committed to play baseball at Andrew College in Cuthbert. After playing middle infielder, shortstop and second base in high school, Smith looks forward to being the second baseman at Andrew College.

“I'm excited to play,” said Smith. "It will be a challenge, but I'm ready for it.”

He had a relatively good senior season at Lowndes, where he boasted the second highest batting average on the team, just behind the team's catcher, who has committed to the University of Georgia. With a BA of .373, Smith is ready to try his luck on a bigger scale.

When Smith is not playing baseball, which he says is pretty much “year round," he enjoys playing pick-up games of basketball with friends. He also enjoys playing whiffle ball and fancies the simple things in life, like fishing.

Smith left these words of advice: “If you’re going to do anything in life, don’t do it half-heartedly. Do it with everything you have.”
