VALDOSTA — Following former Gov. Mike Huckabee’s scheduled book signing this morning, Books-A-Million is scheduled to host another conservative icon next week.

Retired Marine Lt. Col. Oliver North is scheduled to sign his latest novel, “Heroes Proved,” Monday afternoon at the Valdosta book store.

Books-A-Million provides this synopsis of “Heroes Proved”: “It’s the year 2032, and the president claims America is now safe from terror. But when the city of Houston is targeted by suicide bombers — and Dr. Martin Cohen, America’s foremost physicist, is kidnapped — the brilliantly executed attack sends shock waves around the globe. The price of fuel skyrockets. With the U.S. economy on the brink of catastrophe, leaders in Washington look for a scapegoat — instead of our missing scientist. Enter Peter Newman, a highly decorated U.S. Marine war hero, veteran of multiple high-risk covert operations — and Naval Academy roommate of Dr. Marty Cohen. The precarious quest to find and rescue his friend puts the entire Newman family in lethal peril — and exposes the most ominous threat to the United States in our nation’s history.”

In the 1980s, North gained national attention during the Reagan Administration’s Iran-Contra affair, which was the reported sale of weapons to Iran in exchange for the release of American hostages in the Middle East, with proceeds from the arms sales being used to support Nicaragua’s Contra rebels. At the time, North was a National Security Council staffer.

Since he has worked as a political commentator, bestselling author, and is the television host of the long-running Fox News documentary series, “War Stories.” “Heroes Proved” is his 13th book.

Oliver North is scheduled to sign books at 4:30 p.m. Monday, Nov. 26, Books-A-Million, Promenade Plaza, 1705 Norman Drive. More information: Call (229) 253-1155.
