Armed robbery leads to arrest

VALDOSTA — Following a foot chase, Valdosta police made a quick arrest Monday afternoon in the armed robbery of a convenience store.

At approximately 1 p.m. Monday, police received a call regarding a black male using a handgun to rob the 1 Stop convenience store, 521 W. Gordon St. Taking an undisclosed amount of cash, the gunman fled the store.

Receiving the 911 dispatch regarding the robbery, Valdosta police officers spotted the suspect running from the store, according to the Valdosta Police Department. The man did not stop.

Police spent the next several moments chasing the suspect on foot, finally catching and detaining him along the 400 block of West Gordon Street.

“Cash and a handgun were recovered and the offender was placed into custody,” according to Valdosta Police Department reports.

No one was injured in the robbery or the chase.

Police arrested Diante Lael Boatman, 23, of Valdosta, according to VPD reports.

Police investigators questioned him Monday afternoon and he faces a charge of armed robbery, authorities report.
