VALDOSTA — It’s official. Sandra J. Tooley will be the new Valdosta City Council District 2 representative come the new year, according to certified voting numbers released Friday by the Lowndes County Board of Elections.

Tooley received 97 votes, or 55.43 percent, while opposing District 2 candidate Calvin Graham Sr. received 78 votes, or 44.57 percent, in Tuesday’s runoff election for District 2.

The race became wide open at the end of qualifying in August when incumbent District 2 Valdosta City Council member Deidra White said she would not seek reelection in order to spend more time focusing on her family and business.

In addition to Tooley and Graham, John Hogan was also a candidate for District 2. Following the Nov. 5 election, none of the three candidates received the necessary 50 percent plus one vote to win the District 2 seat.

Tooley and Graham, at 198 and 137 votes respectively on Nov. 5, became the two contenders for the Dec. 3 run-off election.
