LOWNDES COUNTY —  A three-car wreck late Thursday resulted in one death and three injuries, according to the Georgia State Patrol.

The wreck near the intersection of Lakeland Highway and Old State Road blocked traffic on the Lakeland Highway for some time.

A gold-colored Taurus traveling east on Knights Academy Road failed to yield the right-of-way to a pickup truck heading south on the Lakeland Highway, said Sgt. B.F. Williams of the state patrol’s Valdosta post.

A person in the Taurus was killed, he said.

Three other people were injured, and one had to be flown by life-flight helicopter to Archbold Memorial Hospital in Thomasville, Williams said.

Jordan Watts, a Valdostan who witnessed the wreck, said he was driving behind the pickup truck when he saw it suddenly flip over. Watts then called 911. It’s unclear how the third car was hit.

The state patrol, the Lowndes County Sheriff’s Office and Lowndes County Fire Rescue responded to the accident. They continued working the scene into the night on Thursday as the investigation continues.
