VALDOSTA — The Valdosta City Council election is not finished.

Valdosta City Council District 2 still faces a run-off election to decide who will be its next representative.

Calvin Graham Sr. and Sandra J. Tooley vie for the District 2 Valdosta City Council seat.

In the complete and final numbers certified Friday from the Nov. 5 election, the Lowndes County Board of Elections reported that Sandra J. Tooley received 198 votes, or 48.06 percent; Calvin Graham Sr. received 137 votes, or 33.25 percent; candidate John Hogan is no longer in the race receiving only 75 votes, or 18.2 percent. Two write-in votes garnered 0.49 percent of ballots cast in District 2.

Unless a muncipality’s charter says otherwise, a candidate must receive 50 percent plus one vote to be certified as the winner in an election. Run-offs typically happen in election races with more than two candidates. The two candidates with the highest percentage of votes face one another to determine a winner in the run-off.

Early run-off voting opened Wednesday and continues 8 a.m.-5 p.m. weekdays, today, Nov. 14 through Nov. 22; and 7 a.m.-7 p.m. Monday through Wednesday, Nov. 25-27, at the Lowndes County Board of Elections, 2808 N. Oak St. Run-off election day is Dec. 3, and District 2 voters may cast their ballots at Precinct 3 Northside Baptist Church, or Precinct 6 Mildred Hunter Center.

All and only registered voters in Valdosta City Council District 2 are eligible to vote in this run-off election.
