Stolen items listed for sale online have led to the arrest of two men in connection with a pair of home robberies in southern Lowndes County.
Christopher Reese Pollette and Emanuel Trevino-Vasaquez are charged with burglary in connection with the burglary of homes on Briggston and Johnson Road South, according to the Lowndes County Sheriff’s Office Tuesday.
The thefts at both homes occurred after the residents had left items behind after moving to another location. Sheriff’s Lt. Stryde Jones believes the homes were scouted and referred to the incidents as “crimes of opportunity.”
The residents left appliances, children’s toys, yard tools and other items behind with the intent of returning to retrieve them but later discovered they were missing.
During the Sheriff’s Office investigation, several of the stolen items were found for sale on an online website that specializes in selling thrift items.
Investigators were able to recover stolen appliances, tools, a stereo and television equipment items from unsuspecting buyers.
A photograph of the recovered property has been released to the public because the owner of some of the items has not be identified.
“There could be at least one more house that has been burglarized and the owners don’t know it yet,” said Jones.
Lowndes County Sheriff Chris Prine encourages online buyers to protect themselves by asking for a bill-of-sale for purchases with the seller’s correct contact information.
The investigation into the thefts is ongoing and efforts are being made to retrieve the remaining stolen property.
The Sheriff’s Office is asking individuals who have purchased items from the suspects to contact the Criminal Investigation Division, (229) 671-2950; anonymous tips can be given at (229) 671-2985 or at www.lowndessheriff.com
