VALDOSTA — They arrive on The Dosta Playhouse stage as goslings, spider hatchlings, cows and a pig. Not just any pig, but Some Pig!

Approximately 40 area children are cast in Gingerbread Players of Theatre Guild Valdosta’s production of “Charlotte’s Web” playing this week and next. Through web-slinging praise, the wise and kindly barn spider Charlotte saves the life of her friend, Wilbur, a young pig.

The play is Joseph Robinette’s adaptation of E.B. White’s beloved children’s book.

In directing this show, Lois Allbritton has come to understand the philosophy behind this children’s story. She refers to Charlotte’s words to Wilbur: “You have been my friend. That in itself is a tremendous thing. After all, what’s life anyway? We’re born, we live a little, we die. By helping you, perhaps I was lifting up my life a little. Heaven knows, anyone’s life can stand a little of that.”

Allbritton notes the many people who helped her prepare this show, saying Charlotte’s words describe “the experience I have had with some very special people during this production. Only, they have been my friends and have helped me, and in the process, have lifted up my life much more than a little.”
