Cody Corbett exhibited the top Champion cattle at the recent 73rd Annual Valdosta Beef Show on Monday, March 10. Corbett exhibited both the Grand Supreme Champion Heifer and the Grand Champion Steer.
The Show event had 13 students from Echols, Lowndes, and Brooks Counties exhibiting 18 cattle. The students are members of either their local 4H Clubs or FFA Chapters. Ryan Cummins of Katy, Texas, was the judge for the evening.
The first division of the Beef Show was Heifers. The purpose of the Heifer show is for students to raise a heifer which can be used back on the farm to produce calves. The Heifer show was divided into Commercial and Registered divisions. Landon Herring exhibited the Reserve Supreme Heifer. Cody Corbett exhibited the Champion Commercial Heifer.
Landon Herring also exhibited the Grand Champion Registered Heifer. Morgan Rowan exhibited the Champion Registered Heifer. Hailee Thatcher also exhibited a registered heifer. Hailee Thatcher exhibited the Grand Champion Area Raised Heifer.
The Showmanship division followed the Heifer division. The Showmanship judging evaluates students on their ability to prepare and exhibit the cattle. Showmanship was split into four divisions: Youth, Junior, Senior, and First Year Showmanship. Youth Showmanship was won by Hailee Thatcher. Brooke Smith won Junior Showmanship. Senior Showmanship was won by Clay Corbett. Zach Sirmans was named the winning First Year Showmanship competitor. A special Peewee Showmanship class had Turner Smith win 1st place.
The Area Raised Champion Steer was exhibited by Clay Corbett.
The Steer Show division included six classes. Winners were: Class I, Clay Corbett; Class II, Morgan Rowan; Class III, Sam Herring; Class IV, Cody Corbett; and, Class V, Sam Herring. Cody Corbett exhibited the Grand Champion Steer. Sam Herring exhibited the Reserve Champion Steer. Rounding out the Top Five Steers were: 3rd – Morgan Rowan, 4th – Clay Corbett, and 5th – Ben Herring.
Other Valdosta Area Beef Show exhibitors included: Clay Parker, Colby Ross, Trevor Ross, and Kolten Thatcher. The Awards Presentation was set for Tuesday, March 11, at 7 p.m. and the sale of steers began at 7:30 p.m.
