Ceremonies today in remembrance of 9/11

VALDOSTA — The Lowndes County Commission is placing a wreath at the 9/11 Memorial on the historic County Courthouse Square at 9 a.m. today in remembrance of the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001. 

The ceremony will be led by County Commission Chairman Bill Slaughter with a brief speech, a prayer with a moment of silence, and placing of the wreath.

The county’s public safety officers will be in attendance and the public is welcome to attend.

The City of Valdosta will host a ceremony at 8:45 a.m. today to remember those who gave their lives 12 years ago, and to honor the continued efforts of public safety professionals.

The ceremony will be held at Valdosta Fire Station #1, located at 106 S. Oak St., and the public is invited to attend.
