VALDOSTA — The Valdosta State University Fellowship of Christian Athletes will be hosting a fundraiser on Thursday, Dec. 5, to help raise awareness of their club and the support the club needs to exist. This fundraiser will be a fine dining experience at Crosspointe Church with a catered seafood buffet and special guest speaker Fisher DeBerry.

An award-winning coach, Fisher DeBerry served as head football coach at the U.S. Air Force Academy for 23 years and coached the Falcons to three conference championships. Aside from his outstanding coaching achievements, he is also quite the good samaritan. He actively participates in church, charity, and community events. The Fellowship of Christian Athletes is one of his active ventures and he was inducted into its Hall of Champions. The Fisher DeBerry Foundation was also established to help provide children of single-parent homes with life-changing opportunities they would not otherwise be able to have.

Shane Goodwin, VSU FCA campus director, is in charge of making sure this event goes off without a hitch. Goodwin hopes to help give the community a better understanding of what the FCA is all about.

“We serve coaches, families, athletic staff, athletes, and anyone they influence by prayer, camps, bibles, and bible studies,” explains Goodwin.

The funds raised from this event will go back into the FCA to provide all the necessities their organization needs to survive.

Dinner with a Legend will be held at 6 p.m. at Crosspointe Church on Dec. 5. The attire will be business casual. While this dinner is free of charge, it is a fundraising event and donations are greatly appreciated. For more information on attending this event or to RSVP, contact Shane Goodwin at (229) 563-2337 or
