A former Valdosta church volunteer charged with molesting children was sentenced Friday to 15 years behind bars.
Kenneth Leonard, 29, was sentenced by Southern Circuit Judge James Hardy to two 20-year sentences following pleading guilty in July to two counts of child molestation, according to Assistant District Attorney Brad Shealy.
Leonard will serve 15 years in prison and the remaining 25 years of the sentence on probation. He will also be required to pay restitution to the victims’ families, but an amount has yet to be determined.
Leonard was charged in September 2012 with sexual battery and child molestation involving five teenagers, according to the Valdosta Police Department. At the time, the victims were between 15-18 years old.
The teens met Leonard through an area church where he served as a volunteer. He reportedly invited the teens to his house, where the incidents reportedly took place. These invitations were not affiliated with the church, and no incidents occurred in the church, according to police.
