Police arrest Ponderosa shooting suspect

VALDOSTA — A month after the incident, the man wanted for a shooting on Ponderosa Drive was arrested after a stakeout Monday morning.

Kenneth Lee Horton (a.k.a. James Morton), 31, was charged with two counts of aggravated assault and one count of possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime after the Valdosta Police Department issued warrants for his arrest, following the March 6 incident in the 1300 block of Ponderosa Drive in which a man reported Horton fired a handgun in his direction multiple times, reports stated.

No one was hit by gunfire, and no injuries were reported. Horton reportedly fled the area before police arrived, reports stated.

The Lowndes County Sheriff’s Office received warrants for Horton’s arrests from the VPD, and the Special Operations Division began conducting an investigation as to his whereabouts, according to reports.

Early Monday morning, Horton was placed under surveillance at a Lake Park, Ga., residence for several hours. Once it was determined that children were not present, officers executed search and arrest warrants, reports stated.

Horton was arrested “without incident” and turned over to investigators with VPD for questioning, according to reports.
