VALDOSTA — Fans who purchased tickets for the Harlem Globetrotters' event next week at Valdosta State University will now have to pay five more dollars if they intend to park in the PE Parking lot Tuesday night, according to University officials.

The $5 parking fee for the Globetrotters event does not signify that the University is going to charge a parking fee for all or even most events, according to Athletics Director Herb Reinhard. The Athletic Department has incurred expenses associated with the hosting of the event that need to be recouped and the parking fee will assist in doing that, stated Reinhard.

The Athletic Department charges a parking fee on a regular basis for parking in certain lots for our athletic events, but the fee is usually not assessed on a single event basis, according to Reinhard.

“The university and Athletic Department are proud to be able to host events for the community and the vast majority of those events will continue to have free on-campus parking,” said Reinhard. “However, there may be times when the hosting of an event creates an expense that needs to be recouped and a minimal parking fee can assist with that.”

The Harlem Globetrotters’ event tips off at 7 p.m. on Tuesday at the Valdosta State University PE Complex on Baytree Road.
