Christmas lights winners

Five houses shine above the rest

VALDOSTA — Twenty-seven area houses shared their Christmas lights in the Valdosta-Lowndes County Parks & Recreation Authority’s holiday decoration contest.

Five winners were selected in five categories, said Sirocus Barnes, VLCPRA program coordinator. They are:

Best Neighborhood

Residents at Merriman Court in Valdosta.

Most Original

G.R. Holton, 3543 Raintree Drive in Dasher.

Lights Extravaganza

Allan and Pam Williams, 3023 Wendover Drive in Valdosta.

Reason For the Season

Bill and Joanne Halter, 1307 McRee Drive in Valdosta.

Most Humorous

Matthew Lindsey, 7935 Webb Road North in Hahira.

Five judges made the selections. They were Nathan Watson, a youngster in the parks after-school program; Leah Cline and Pat Hester, parks staff members; Kathy Gaddis, a member of the senior citizens program; Todd Howard, a Special Olympics athlete. After mapping out a route, the judges and others gathered in a van, from 6-9 p.m., on two evenings, traveling throughout the county to all 27 entry addresses.
