A domestic dispute between two half-brothers turned deadly Sunday night, with one shot to death and the other facing charges, according to the police department.
Around 8 p.m., Zevedee Hankerson, 23, and Thomas Graddy, 36, both of Valdosta, got into an altercation at 610 Old Statenville Road, said Cmdr. Brian Childress of the Valdosta Police Department.
At one point, Hankerson “introduced a firearm into the dispute,” Childress said, and shot Graddy “multiple times.”
Graddy was pronounced dead at the scene, Childress said. Hankerson was taken into custody as soon as police arrived, he said.
A number of individuals have been interviewed in the investigation, Childress said.
Hankerson has been charged with voluntary manslaughter and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime, he said.
“This incident was tragic,” Childress said. “The police department offers free courses on domestic violence awareness and prevention free of charge for the public.”
Anyone wanting to take part in these domestic violence courses may call the police department’s Community Policing Unit at 293-3099, he said.
