Collision injures five on Bemiss

LOWNDES COUNTY — A collision between a sedan and a log truck along Bemiss Road north of Moody Air Force Base left two senior citizens and three children injured Tuesday afternoon.

At around 4 p.m., emergency officials responded to a collision between a blue Mercury Grand Marquis and a semi tractor-trailer, specifically a logging truck without a load, in the 6600 block of Bemiss Road.

Three young girls, ages 10, 13, and a third of undisclosed age, were injured along with two senior citizens. All five individuals were taken by ambulance to South Georgia Medical Center.

The driver of the truck, John Norwood, of Valdosta, a driver for Carpenters Logging Co. out of Lake Park, said the sedan was parked on the side of the road and pulled out in front of his truck. He thought the vehicle would stay put, he said. Norwood was uninjured.

The identities and extent of the injuries of the five individuals were not disclosed at the scene and unavailable by press time.
