Drug arrests in county

Two separate incidents result in total of three arrests

VALDOSTA — Tips from citizens have assisted law enforcement tremendously lately in identifying potential illegal activity and making subsequent arrests.

On June 20, investigators from the Special Operations Division of the Lowndes County Sheriff’s Office executed a search warrant in the 700 block of Azalea Circle in Valdosta. During the service of the warrant, investigators recovered a quantity of marijuana, items commonly used in the distribution of marijuana, such as scales and plastic baggies, and stolen street signs that are the property of the City of Valdosta, according to the sheriff’s office.

Michael Brian Lanning, 20, a resident of the home, and Conor James Harrison of Thomasville were arrested and transported to the Lowndes County Jail, according to the sheriff’s office. Lanning is charged with possession of marijuana with the intent to distribute, possession of tools for the commission of a crime and theft by receiving stolen property; Harrison was charged with theft by receiving stolen property, according to reports.

Both have since been released on bond, according to reports.

In a separate incident, in early June, the sheriff’s office conducted a traffic stop for excessively dark-window tint after observing a man leaving his residence after placing packages in the rear of his pickup truck. Investigators from the Special Operations Division were alerted to watch the individual by tips from citizens.

When officers conducted the stop, they searched the vehicle and found approximately 15 pounds of marijuana, which led to the issuance of a search warrant for his home, located on Danieli Drive North in Lake Park. A search of the residence resulted in the discovery of an additional 12 pounds of marijuana, according to the sheriff’s office.

Jeffery Allen Carwin, 55, was arrested and transported to the Lowndes County Jail where he has remained since his June 4 arrest with no bond set. He is charged with trafficking marijuana and window-tint violation, according to reports.
