Jingle Jury

LHS Off-Broadway courts the Christmas spirit

VALDOSTA — Lowndes High School Off-Broadway hopes to reach a verdict of Christmas cheer this evening with its one-night-only production of “Jingle Jury.”

The show features dozens of Lowndes High School students, ranging from freshmen to seniors, says Phyllis Childree, LHS Off-Broadway. In addition to this evening’s one performance for the public, the theatrical troupe will present the show to some Lowndes County Schools elementary students, too.

“Jingle Jury” is a musical holiday show with book by Jay Moriarty and music and lyrics by Bill Francoeur. The audience participates in the show.

Show synopsis: “The Candy Cane Courthouse is now in session, and your audience is the jury! The defendant, young Jim Dandy, has called Christmas spirit ‘a lot of nonsense,’ but that won’t fly in the Christmas court of justice! In comes a colorful parade of Christmas personalities, including reindeer-in-training, an angel from atop a Christmas tree, wise men and holiday shoppers, all trying to prove Jim wrong. Jim tries to defend himself, but it’s hard when even Mrs. Cratchit and Tiny Tim make an appearance. It’s up to the Toy Maker to discover why Jim is acting so strangely. The answer involves a teddy bear and some bad kids who aren’t so bad after all. You’ll be surprised at how the verdict is reached.”

“Jingle Jury” wraps the first half of LHS Off-Broadway’s 2013-14 season. Come spring, the student theatre organization is scheduled to present “Shrek The
