A suspect wanted in connection with the Friday shooting of a Valdosta man has surrendered to authorities, the Valdosta Police Department said Saturday.
With the VPD Power Squad intensifying a search for him Friday afternoon and evening, William Earl Holloman, 40, of Valdosta learned police had a warrant for his arrest and had issued media bulletins containing his name and photo.
Holloman contacted police, gave them his location, and he was taken into custody without incident, Valdosta Police Chief Brian Childress said Saturday.
Holloman is charged with aggravated assault, according to police.
Authorities issued a warrant for his arrest midday Friday stemming from a reported shooting at 1:18 a.m.
Police responded to a room in Studio Courtyard Apartments, 1809 N. Ashley St. There, police officers found a 20-year-old male with a single gunshot wound to the lower abdomen, according to reports.
Emergency-medical services transported the 20-year-old to South Georgia Medical Center’s emergency room while police investigators and Valdosta-Lowndes Regional Crime Lab crime-scene technicians pieced together the case.
“According to witnesses, the offender fled the area on foot,” according to police reports. “Officers conducted a search of the area, but were unable to locate the offender.”
