With more than 800 guests in attendance, The Valdosta Daily Times’ tenth annual Senior Showcase at the Rainwater Conference Center on Saturday morning was a rousing success.
This free event gives active senior citizens from all over the region the opportunity to interact with numerous businesses ranging from hearing centers to living facilities and even a no-carb margarita booth. “Not even the rain stopped people from coming out,” said event coordinator Rachel Thrasher,”We’ve added ten more booths this year and the event just seems to keep growing every year.”
During the event, many booths held raffles for various door prizes. Attendees listened anxiously to see if they were one of the lucky recipients, wining anything from a wireless headset to a one-hour massage.
A veteran of the Senior Showcase, Danny Jones of Advanced Hearing Solutions had his soundproof booth set up to allow attendees to have their hearing tested on the spot. “Many wives love our booth because they can finally convince their husbands that they need a hearing aid,” laughed Jones. He also stated that his attendance annually at the event not only helps with the promotion of his business, but that it also raises awareness about hearing problems that citizens should be aware of.
This year also brought with it some new businesses which all seemed to be impressed with the turnout. Newcomer Erin Haskins, owner and speech language pathologist of Azalea Rehab, says she received a good response and she could see herself doing this on an annual basis. With her business being less than a year old, she was excited to be given an opportunity to get the firm’s name out in the community.
